The JAN Cardigan is yet another option for busting all those bulky yarn scraps you have left over from your winter projects.
You know we love texture and chunky thick crochet and busting yarn scraps around here. The JAN cardigan is the newest offering. Grab all your left over bulky yarns, and a 9mm hook, and let's get started.
Don't have enough? Throw all your scraps together and let your imagination and creativity run wild. The JAN cardigan can also be made using two to three strands of yarn.
The JAN cardigan has a classic raglan construction. We begin from the neckline, and separate for the sleeves to finish the bodice, before working on the sleeves.
SKILL LEVEL: This DIY crochet pattern is suitable for intermediate crocheters. The texture is created using the treble crochet stitch, so there isn't any complicated new stitch to learn.
SIZING: What you should not expect in this 14 pages long pattern: size charts. Instead, I provide a sizing guide, that explains what you should take into consideration when deciding how to begin and how big to make your yoke. We construct the yoke so that we just need to add rounds till it fits.
YARN and HOOK: I would recommend working with a hook between 7mm to 9mm. If you are working with bulky yarns of the same weight, follow the recommended hook size. But if you intend to use two strands of yarn with texture, then you will have to experiment a little to see which hook size produces a fabric that drapes and isn't too stiff.
MATERIALS: You would also need a measuring tape, stitch markers, and a tapestry needle.
I learnt to crochet clothes the hard way, through a lot of trial and error, and buying patterns that showed me how to make pullovers that fitted imperfectly, like clothes off a rack. The JAN Cardigan is the latest fruit of all that experimentation: I really want to share with you how a cardigan is crocheted, and how alterations can be achieved.
The JAN Cardigan Crochet Pattern:
- is 14 pages long
- is written in English, and uses US American crochet terminology
- shows you how to choose and adapt the crochet pattern for the type of yarn and size of hook you want to use.
- contains no fixed sizing, but explains in great detail how to adjust the top to fit your own body. I show you how to extend the width and length, and how to achieve a better fit with the belt construction.
