The KARL is a collar; the KARL is a scarf. It is a scarf-collar meant to be worn over your trusty neutral pullover. Or your coat.

The KARL collar is a great way to pep up a boring old coat. Before you start mulling over websites to decide on your next grey/navy/black coat, just add that burst of colour you want using the FAYE collar.

Get yourself several skeins of chunky yarn and make a few of these fun technicolored collar scarves for the gals in your life.

I have to warn you, this gets addictive! All the colour combinations possible will get you making this again and again.

Alternatively, you can use yarn scraps, combining about 3 aran weight yarns to work up the neck portion, and then using fresh new yarn to work the forked spokes and the bobbles.

SKILL LEVEL: This DIY crochet pattern is suitable for advanced beginners. If you know how to crochet a beanie, and know how to crochet in the round, and have read a pattern, then this pattern is easy enough for you. You only need the single crochet, the double crochet, and the front post double crochet, in order to make this wrap top. There is a step-by-step guide to changing colors.

SIZING: This is a one-size fits all project. But there are still instructions for varying the size.

YARN and HOOK: I would recommend using bulky yarn. You should prepare hooks between 8mm to 10mm, and be prepared to make a few swatches to see which hook size produces a fabric that has the right mix between drape and structure.

MATERIALS: You would also need stitch marker, and a tapestry needle for weaving in ends.

The KARL Collar Crochet Pattern:

- is 7 pages long

- is written in English, and uses US American crochet terminology

- shows you how picture by picture, how to change yarns when working a textured stitch pattern.

- contains no fixed sizing, but explains in great detail how to adjust the top to fit your own body. I show you how to extend the width and length, and how to achieve a better fit with the belt construction.
